BIO/ Background Information:
Re-elect MIKE FLEAGLE to Doyon, Ltd. Board of Directors
|
Beginning: I was born in Tanana, Alaska in 1959, and grew up in Manley Hot Springs, the first of five children of
Richard Fleagle of Michigan and Elizabeth Nictune of Alatna. My dad was of German and Irish descent. My mom is
upper Kobuk River Inupiaq. Her parents were the late Oscar Nictune, Sr. and the late Cora Tobuk. My siblings are Jeri
(1960), Tim (1963), Frank (1964-1983) and Tammy (1966).
Education: I went through the first 8 years of schooling in the small Manley Hot Springs School, which at the time was
a one-room modular building with one teacher. From there I went to Monroe High School in Fairbanks, boarding with
family friends Karl Thumma and his children. I actually graduated from West Valley High School due to Monroe not
allowing mid-term graduations at the time, however. I completed vocational training in Anchorage to be a light- and
heavy-duty mechanic shortly after graduating from West Valley.
Family: I am married to Dr. Cynthia Jacobson, Assistant Regional Director/Science Applications of the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service in Anchorage. I have two sons from my first marriage who were raised in McGrath where I lived for 25
years before moving to Anchorage. Einar is 29 and he and his wife Lisa have two kids Rafe (4) and Zoey (3). Einar has
an older son Jadon (9) born from a previous marriage. Frank is 28 and has a son Aaron (3).
Employment: I am employed by the Municipality of Anchorage as the Facility Maintenance Supervisor. My crew
maintains the Municipality's buildings, such as fire and police stations, libraries, shops, office buildings, recreation
centers, swimming pools, etc.
Work History: Before moving to Anchorage, I was the Airport Manager in McGrath for the Alaska DOT, where I started
out as a heavy equipment operator/mechanic. I've also held other jobs such as maintenance worker for the DNR
Forestry station in McGrath, welding, mining, mechanic, City of McGrath water plant operator and public works
foreman. I started work on the Slope in Pump Station 1 right out of vocational training, and I lived and worked in Barrow
as a mechanic for two separate years some time ago.
